Rotund Samuel speaks on West Ham
Sam Allardyce reckons a successful West Ham European campaign could see them struggle in the Premier League.

Interviews on talkSport the former Irons manager claims Slaven Bilic “could run into the same problems I did over the last four years”

Ahead of the game against Birkirkara the sixty-year-old told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show“If West Ham have a very good run in Europe it could have a detrimental effect on their Premier League results.

“If you play more games in Europe, along with the FA Cup and League Cup, you’re going to test the squad.

“I’m not sure the squad is strong and deep enough if they have a long run in Europe. Staying clear of injuries is the most important thing in any manager’s season.

“If not, Slaven Bilic could run into the same problems I did over the last four years.”

Quite right andy. And if you listen to Bilic's 1st presser he said pretty much what you have. He put the positive on it by adding that we want to use it as a springboard for the Prem...

Re: Rotund Samuel speaks on West Ham
The point he's making is obvious, and of course correct, but the way it's put sums up his negative, defeatist attitude.

Any manager with half a brain would say; "History shows that clubs that progress a long way into the Europa League generally tend to suffer at some point in the league as these clubs generally don't have a squad with the depth to manage multiple competitions. Europe is a huge achievement for West Ham and we'll be going out to try and win every game, and if we need to shuffle our team around later in the season then that's something we'll need to consider if we are to stay competitive."

Largely both comments are the same, but one is horrendously defeatist and the other is realistically optimistic.

But you are missing the complete contradiction in his comments.

He say's 'With the extra Euro games Bilic will suffer the same problems I had".

But Sam never played any Euro games. So what the fuck is he on about? We on ly had one decent cup run under Sam too.

As others have said. Negativity. Delusion. Excuses. Sam to a tee.

Sounded like he'd been on the beers a lot in past few weeks.

Re: Rotund Samuel speaks on West Ham
Nothing wrong with anything he has said at all.

We struggled with injuries to key players under Allardyce, and our squad then wasn't strong enough to cope.

With European footbal the extra games will be more taxing on our squad fitness, so getting a strong enough squad is vital.

I think if we bring in 3 more top quality players (Song, a winger and a striker) and we'll be in great shape to be able to juggle things.

Re: Rotund Samuel speaks on West Ham
Thanks for the advice Sam. I'm sure we'll be fine as long as we employ your tactic of securing safety by Christmas and taking the rest of the season off.

Re: Rotund Samuel speaks on West Ham
Don't think he said anything detrimental about us. All he said was we need to keep away from injuries and we'll do well. Seems fair enough to me.

Where has he said he managed us in Europe?

Oh he hasn't

BFS is being a dull cunt but what he's saying is right

Re: Rotund Samuel speaks on West Ham
I don't recal BFS having to manage the club in Europe and the league?

Fuck me, he had 4 cup games in 2015 on top of the league games and he managed to fuck that up because the dinosaur only had one set of tactics.

Re: Rotund Samuel speaks on West Ham
We have a new manager, we are playing against a European side tomorrow, we have made some really good signings while not losing anyone important, the sun is sort of shining where I am, people don't anything better to do than listening to a guy that used to be our manager has to say and call him childish names.

Re: Rotund Samuel speaks on West Ham
There is a potential solution to mitigate this. West Ham should de-prioritise all cup competitions.

We should also only target certain games for a win. Chelsea away is not one we want to be having a go at and fatiguing ourselves when statistically we are more likely to beat Palace at home.

Also, a lot of tiring play could be cut out if we simply play the ball directly to the big man up front. Statistically Kevin Nolan will get 1 or 2 second ball penalty area entries per game.

Seems fair enough to be. We need more depth if we're going to have a long European campaign this season.

Knowing our luck though, we'll be knocked out by some minnow before too long.

Re: Rotund Samuel speaks on West Ham
Exactly I could understand that last season if we had cup runs galore and was in Europe... but we didn't... so what is his excuse...

If this season our league forms suffer as we are in Europe and have long cup runs then you can understand that...
